We've had a delayed start to vintage (10 days later than 2019) but we have started with Chardonnay for Sparkling. The fruit quality and yields were both really good, Chardonnay is a very consistent variety for us. We've had a lot of unseasonal (and unwelcome) rain over the past week but it looks like we are in for a dry spell so we hope to get lots of fruit picked this week. Thank you to everyone who has bought wine or stopped by the cellar door over the past couple of weeks. We really appreciate your support in these difficult times and it makes a big difference to our small family business.

Stay safe and drink wine,

Warm wishes, Fiona, Julian, Tim & Sheena

New Release 2019 Pinot Noir

This time last year we were making this wine, now it is in the bottle. A blend of clones and a warm year have combined to produce a juicy, generous wine with lots of fruit intensity- plum, cherry and blackberry. There is plenty of body and length with a crunchy acidity and charry oak touch. $40 per bottle, order now (https://www.mooreshill.com.au/tasmanianwine/2018-pinot-noir-x4cfm) Special Offer: 12 bottles of Pinot Noir for the price of 10, $400. With free delivery within Australia, (no other discounts apply) order here (https://www.mooreshill.com.au/tasmanianwine/12-bottles-of-pinot-noir-for-the-price-of-10)

COVID-19 Measures in our business

Our cellar door is open for takeaway bottle sales only. Our cellar door staff will join the picking crew for harvest over the next few weeks. We welcome the government wage subsidies that will help to keep our staff connected to us ready to pour wine for you again! Agricultural production is considered an essential service so we have been able to proceed with our harvest and making wine. To keep our picking teams safe, we’ve mandated handwashing and wearing of plastic gloves. We’ve changed our picking practices by instigating a strict new protocol. No longer do people pick in teams, instead individuals pick whole panels alone with the aim of ensuring a minimum of 3m between people at all times. As a small winery, we only have 2 people working in our facility at one time so we can work safely. Once harvest is over and the wines are tucked away safely in barrel and tank, we're looking forward to a period of hibernation ourselves. We'll see you on the other side!

4 years of making solar powered wine

2020 marks 4 years of making wine powered by the sun at Moores Hill and we have no regrets. Our system has 108 solar panels proivind 28kw and 80kw of battery storage. We estimate this saves around $15,ooo per year in electricity costs so the system will have paid for itself by the end of 2021.
