Tasting Notes
Riesling 2008
The growing conditions for 2008 vintage were excellent, and the maturing vines produced their best fruit ever. This elegant Riesling may be enjoyed now for its fresh, floral aroma and sweet citrus flavours. Cellaring for several years will further improve the wine. A wonderful aperitif or a fine accompaniment to seafood flavours such as lightly sautéed scallops, smoked fish or fried whitebait. Awarded 3 trophies at the 2008 Hobart International Wine Show: Best Riesling, Best Tasmanian White Wine and Best Tasmanian Wine.
Unwooded Chardonnay 2008
An unwooded, unadulterated, vibrant wine that demonstrates just how elegant Tasmanian Chardonnay can be. Bright, polished, pale gold green in colour, this wine has a subtle aromatic nose, with citrus and stone fruit characters. Its freshness is marked by a refreshingly crisp finish that makes it very food friendly. The wine is well suited to current drinking as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to warm chicken salad, simple grilled fish, lightly sauced scallops, roast pork or turkey.
Chardonnay 2008
A generous wine with fresh citrus and delicate floral overtones on the nose. Lemon and pear flavours are enhanced with a balanced natural acidity that ensures this elegant and restrained Chardonnay is very food friendly. The judicious use of oak makes it ideal for everyday drinking. This wine is ageworthy or drink it now as the perfect accompaniment to grilled Tasmanian salmon.
Rose 2008
A fun wine for good times in good company. Made from pinot noir, this is a perfect anytime, anywhere aperitif or the perfect kick off for long Summer lunches. This wine has a perfumed nose of watermelon and a hint of guava. On the palate, juicy red fruit predominates, framed with a crispness that would compliment any Asian meal.
Pinot Noir 2008
Our best Pinot Noir yet. A rich wine showing lovely varietal sweet cherry and savoury tones on the nose. The palate delivers with delicious spicy cherry and strawberry notes framed by fine tannins and a subtle oak touch. An unashamed food wine, it is the perfect accompaniment to rich dishes such roast rack of lamb, duck cassoulet or mushroom risotto.
Cabernet Merlot 2008
A medium-bodied wine that bears the hallmarks of its Tassie heritage. An equal blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, this wine shows wonderful complexity and intensity of fruit. The palate is velvet smooth and soft tannins make a welcome accompaniment to grilled lamb, or peppered steak. Decant and allow to breathe for up to one hour before serving. Drinking well now but will improve in the cellar over the coming 5-8 years.
CGR Late Harvest Riesling 2008
Moores Hill has a strong reputation for producing fine Riesling. In 2008 we decided to allocate part of our harvest to craft a dessert style wine. ‘CGR’ borrows from Roman numerals referring to the 100 Grams Residual sugar that make this wine a refreshing summer treat or perfect after dinner indulgence. Chill it down and indulge luxuriously like a Roman Emperor.
